چکیده

Abstract Key message Different components of water balance and temperature reduce density height growth saplings Picea abies (L.) H. Karst (Norway spruce), Abies alba Mill. (silver fir) Fagus sylvatica L. (European beech) in mixed uneven-aged forests the French Alps Jura mountains. Ungulate browsing is an additional pressure on fir beech that could jeopardise renewal these species future. Context The uncertainty tree recruitment rates raises questions about factors affecting regeneration processes forests. Factors such as climate, light, competition ungulate may play important role determining regeneration, forest structures thus future composition. Aims objective this study was to quantify sapling densities increments spruce, identify dominant environmental variables influencing them Methods Sapling increment were recorded 152 plots, non-linear models obtained establish relations between known affect namely altitude, slope, aspect, canopy openness, soil characteristics, temperature, precipitation browsing. Results Regeneration density, varying from 0 7 per m 2 , decreased with also negatively affected for spruce by PET, but positively mean annual content. Height reached up 50 cm annually, increasing openness decreasing under high maximum summer temperatures beech. statistical effect different varied slightly among trends quite similar. Additionally, high, being most intensely browsed, followed closely beech, while rarely browsed. Conclusions All results suggest more warming a decrease availability impact three species, possible reduction fluxes. observed increase populations leading increased be particularly detrimental saplings.

PCDD/F and PCB in spruce forests of the Alps.

PCDD/F and PCB concentrations in remote mountainous spruce stands of the Central European Alps show strong geographic variation. Independent of the matrix (0.5 year old needles, humus or mineral soil), the highest pollutant levels were always found at the lateral zones of the mountain range. High levels coincided with strong precipitation, particularly along the northern margin of the study reg...

Ungulate Impact on Natural Regeneration in Spruce-Beech-Fir Stands in Černý důl Nature Reserve in the Orlické Hory Mountains, Case Study from Central Sudetes

The paper presents the results of a study on tree regeneration of forest stands in the Černý důl Nature Reserve, which is situated in the Orlické hory Mountains Protected Landscape area in the Czech Republic. Research was conducted in a spruce-beech stand with an admixture of silver fir, sycamore maple and rowan on two comparative permanent research plots (PRPs) (PRP 1—fenced enclosure and PRP ...

Significant Mean and Extreme Climate Sensitivity of Norway Spruce and Silver Fir at Mid-Elevation Mesic Sites in the Alps

Climate forcing is the major abiotic driver for forest ecosystem functioning and thus significantly affects the role of forests within the global carbon cycle and related ecosystem services. Annual radial increments of trees are probably the most valuable source of information to link tree growth and climate at long-term time scales, and have been used in a wide variety of investigations worldw...

Ponderosa Pine, Mixed Conifer, and Spruce-fir Forests

Before European settlement of the interior west of the United States, coniferous forests of this region were influenced by many disturbance regimes, primarily fires, insects, diseases, and herbivory, which maintained a diversity of successional stages and vegetative types across landscapes. Activities after settlement, such as fire suppression, grazing, and logging significantly altered these d...
